The search was on today for another MP3 audio player. In a prior post, I wrote of my trials and tribulations as a new owner of an MP3, encountering the problems loading tunes onto the friggin’ thing. But, with all tunes loaded, I was basking in the delight of this little contraption, making my rides home on the bus tolerable and lunch hours enjoyable.
Just as I was enjoying my MP3 during the lunch break yesterday; I dropped it. Ever done one of these? The MP3 lay on the table, earphones in the ear, thus leaving table; ‘plop’ the player lands on the floor. DUH! It still works, but you have to snap in the front to the back when adjusting the volume etc. But, don’t want to be without this little invention; time to hunt for a new one.
The giant decision was to purchase a 1GB or 2GB? My injured one was a 2GB, but thought, do I really require all of these songs? Apparently, you can load about 500-700 songs on a 2GB. A co-worker said “Why don’t you just get an Ipod like mine; you can load 3,000 songs”. 3,000 songs! I only own about 300 songs in my entire library and that’s pushing it; that’s counting stuff I don’t even listen to and was rejected by the trade-in CD place:
· 50 Greatest Polka Hits of All Time
· Alvin and the Chipmunks Sing Vegas
· Cardio Workout (High Energy Music for Aerobics)
· Classical Goes Country
· Sounds of the Forest
· Mood Music for the Whirlpool
I thought, “3,000 songs, I only use it basically for about two hours each day – you would have to go on a cross-country bus trip and not even listen to half of these songs.”
So, I went to Walmart and purchased a 1GB; tiny little MP3 that fit in the palm of my hand. I thought it a neat idea to have a rechargeable battery, however, the way things turned out it was not a wise decision. I charged the battery for three hours, loaded my songs, the player started up and everything seemed fine; enjoying my tunes. Then…..silence……dead Re-charged, played for four hours (supposed to play for 10), and…..dead. Also, when it was playing and I wanted to turn it off, the little sucker wouldn’t go off – just this friggin’ light blinking constantly. Obviously a dud. Also, in my opinion, I will take batteries any day over these rechargeable batteries that are charged via USB, which I deem quite useless in the long run. If the battery recharge life is 10 hours, and one was to go on a trip for three days, how would one charge the battery? I’m sticking to AAA’s.
My new blue 1GB has just been loaded and so far so good. At least I can see my songs displayed on this one and it is battery powered. I’m happy with the 250 songs limit which is more than enough for me. The price was low and the sound quality very good. My only complaint to these makers of MP3’s; there isn’t enough instructions on how to download or copy/rip music onto the MP3. Luckily, I learnt the hard way and know how to do it now, but with no instructions at all with this new MP3, if I was a newbie, I wouldn’t have had a clue. Not fair.
